CHASER’S CEMENT

This specialty adhesive melts easily and is used to attach items in boxwood slips for engraving. Can be cleaned with alcohol. Sold in bar form.

How to use chaser’s cement:

These are general recommendations and suggestions. Proceed with caution, and use at your own risk.

Use a bit of rough wood to sit it on. The grain of the wood helps it stay in place. The broken end of a broom handle or a piece of an old pallet helps to hold while setting.

Break off a bit of the wax and melt it carefully with a feathery flame, just till it flows. Too close or too hot and it will spit and hiss, and maybe catch fire.

Insert your work gently into the softened wax and leave it to sit for a while to harden. Be careful of your fingers as the wax gets very hot.

Once hardened you can now work on your piece, which will be held firmly in place.

When you have finished, gently reheat the wax to release the piece, or give the wood a good hard tap with a hammer near the wax. The work jumps out of the wax (and a few pieces of wax break off).

Any residue of wax can be simply wiped off with acetone, which dissolves it completely.

ALWAYS WEAR EYE PROTECTION WHEN USING CHASER’S CEMENT
