STIRRING RODS

Quartz rods are ideal for stirring precious metals in a crucible while melting. This superior quality clear quartz rod has been annealed and fire polished to eliminate flaking or contamination of your metal.

Quartz stirring rods may also be used to collect and remove slag.

What is slag? Slag is a by-product of metal smelting. It is the impurities naturally found in metal ore. Slag floats to the top during the smelting process, and looks like little rocks. When the metal is fully melted a stirring rod is used to skim the slag and remove it from metal.

Melting point: 3183° Fahrenheit

One 3/8" diameter x 12” long quartz rod
