FULL SPECTRUM LIGHT
Full-spectrum light is light that covers the entire electromagnetic spectrum from infrared to near-ultraviolet light. It contains all color wavelengths that are useful to plants and animals. Unobstructed sunlight is considered full spectrum light. The color distribution of the light reaching the Earth changes with the time of day, the latitude, the position of the sun in the sky and various other atmospheric conditions.
Full-spectrum is also a marketing term for electric light bulbs that emulate natural looking light.
Artists use full-spectrum fluorescent lamps when they paint pictures on canvas. If the artist does not have access to natural, outdoor northern sunlight, or they are painting at night, they may use a full spectrum lamp to light their work.
Make-up artists use full spectrum light when applying make-up to be seen under bright stage or outdoor lighting.
Unlike incandescent light, full spectrum lamps provide light that helps the artist to see the colors more accurately and in their natural hues, just as their work will be viewed in a home or art gallery.
Paint stores use full spectrum lights to more accurately match colors. Scientists use full-spectrum lighting when developing product colors.
Full spectrum bulbs are often found in aquarium hoods, contributing to the health and beauty of fish, plants and reptiles.
Indoor herb gardening beneath full spectrum light bulbs helps keep your plants healthier and blooming year-round, assisting in the process of photosynthesis when converting Co2 to oxygen.
Some researchers are suggesting that use of full spectrum lamp may even be helpful in the treatment of depression. The jury is still out on this, but it’s an interesting theory. People appear happier on bright, sunshiny days.
