Setting-Up Your New Pegas 21 Scroll Saw
Congratulations on your decision to purchase the world-famous Pegas Scroll Saw! Before you take it out of the box, plug it in, and start cutting, lets take a look at setting your saw up properly.
Position the Upper Arm
Before inserting a scroll saw blade, turn knob A at the back of the saw to adjust the upper arm to parallel. The distance from the arm to the table at the back needs to be the same as at the front. Once parallel note the knob position on the top of the machine with a dot of nail polish. Check and adjust regularly. This set-up will significantly reduce vibration.
Adjusting the upper arm up or down to expose an unused part of a used blade is not recommended.
Blade Position in the Blade Clamp
Be sure to insert the set screw far enough into the Pegas blade clamp that the blade does not come in contact with the walls of the clamp.
The ends of the scroll saw blades should be centered between the flat end of the set screw and the head of the swivel on the thumb screw.
Tension Lever Positioning
For best results the white tension lever should be set to 1/4" away from the saw arm.
Flipped all the way over to the arm is too tight. The tension lever may hammer and pop out of place. You may get some loud knocking and vibration from the lever beating on the saw arm, and ultimately damaging the lever.
Front to Back Blade Motion Adjustment
For precision work on a portrait, a minimal amount of front to back blade motion is recommended. Put a blade in the saw and adjust the blade tension with the white tension lever. Placing a piece of wood behind the blade will allow you to see the distance the blade is moving.
With the motor OFF, gently loosen the motor-mounting screws that hold the motor in place, just a little, allowing you to rotate the body of the motor. Turn the motor with a screwdriver, and adjust until the front to back movement of the blade has been minimized. Tighten the motor-mounting screws.
Mounting the Saw
For safest operation and least amount of vibration it is recommended that you mount your Pegas Scroll Saw to your workbench, or optional Pegas Scroll Saw Stand, on a solid, level floor.
Always refer to the Pegas Scroll Saw Owners Manual. It is your primary source of information regarding your saw.
