Preheat the empty crucible to get it hot before melting any metal. Add a little metal powder and slowly bring the torch flame to the crucible. This helps to keep the metal from blowing out of the crucible.

Cleaning the crucible after each use and removing excess dross will extend the life of your crucibles.
