Heat shrink tubing makes a great temple cover for the metal cable temples that wrap around your ear. Provides a barrier between the metal and the patient's ear, reducing skin irritation and eliminating discoloration.
Heat shrink tubing shrinks to about half it's diameter.
1. Slip the Heat Shrink Tubing over the cable end
2. Cut off excess tubing, leaving 1/4" more than you need
3. Shrink the tubing with a Hot Air Frame Warmer at 150° F for uniform shrinking without scorching
4. Finish by cutting the tubing to expose a little of the cable end if desired
For regular Sun Clips use 857501 2.36mm black heat shrink or 867507 2.36mm clear heat shrink. (Shrinks to 1.17mm)
For Mini Sun Clips use 858507 1.3mm clear heat shrink. (Shrinks to .58mm)
Prevents clip scratching of lenses and frames. Cover the clip, cut off excess, and heat with a hot air frame warmer. A hair dryer will not get hot enough.
Approximate dimensions and shrinkage:
1.3mm (3/64") ID shrinks to .65mm (1/32") ID
2.36mm (3/32") ID shrinks to 1.18mm (3/64") ID
3.2mm (1/8") ID shrinks to 1.6mm (1/16") ID
4.75mm (3/16") ID shrinks to 2.4mm (3/32") ID
A hair dryer may not generate enough heat to accomplish this task. Most only heat to 140°F, the temperature where human skin starts to burn. You might want to check the heat output of your device to see what sort of temperature you can achieve.
