(You may need to copy and paste the link into your browser, or go to eyeglass parts, eyeglass hinges on our website.)
Step 2: Remove the lenses from your frames to prevent any accidental damage.
Step 3: Remove the temples from the glasses
Using the small screwdriver, remove the hinge screw from the hinge. This will make it easier to remove the hinges.
Step 4: Hold the tip of the soldering iron to the hinge piece, being careful not to touch the plastic.
Grab the hinge with tweezers with your other hand.
Step 5: The heat will transfer from the soldering iron to the eyeglass hinge, softening the plastic around the hinge. Gently pull the hinge up and away from the frame. Pull as straight as possible.
Step 6: Hold the new hinge with the tweezers and position it into the hole where the broken hinge was removed. Hold it as straight and flush with the frame as possible.
Touch the new hinge with the tip of the soldering iron until the plastic of the frame melts around it. Be careful not to melt the plastic too much or push the hinge too deep into the frame. If needed, use the tweezers or the soldering iron tip to adjust the position of the hinge.
