RIFFLERS
RIFFLER (noun) - from the German word reifeln, “to channel, chaufer, flute or groove”, and from the French rifloir, from rifler “to scratch”. A hand file with a curved face, used for filing concave surfaces.
Riffler files are often used by diesinkers, die makers, mold makers, silversmiths, and other skilled craftsmen for filing odd-shaped parts or hard-to-reach areas in wood, plastic, plaster and metal.
Riffler file teeth are cut onto small areas at each end of the file. They may be shaped into anything from trowels to curves and button hooks. The long middle area of the riffler file typically serves as a handle.
