PEGAS THUMB SCREWS
From our good friend Charles Hand, Master Scroller and Author.
"Bad advice travels quickly. I read where many people are suggesting to make your own from a bolt or to buy a standard thumbscrew from a hardware store. DO NOT DO THIS! LOL.
Doing so will not only damage the clamp, it may also cause damage to the linkage system on your saw. The saws in question are of the Excalibur style which includes many of the popular brands such as Seyco, Pegas, King, Dewalt and others with this similar clamp design.
These saws have special pivoting tip thumbscrews and by no means are a standard hardware store thumbscrew style. Always contact the company you purchased the saw from for parts and do not simply make a retrofit. The entire thumbscrew can be replaced. Very inexpensive and a much smarter choice than trying to make something that will damage your saw."
EDITOR'S NOTE: Pegas recommends only "finger-tight" when tightening the thumb screw on their blade clamps. Any more than that and you will cause premature wear on the aluminum threads in the clamp body, or damage the swivel in the end of the thumb screw, preventing the swivel from swiveling, or causing the clamp body to close like the pinchers on a pincher bug.
For us technical nerds, "finger-tight" is around 50 inch-pounds.
